Welcome to our second Media Monday! Where we will take a piece of media, whether it be a movie, song, or book that discusses a theme or topic relating back to the Defying Shadows Message! If you have any suggestions for a future Media Monday, please share your thoughts with us either on our Facebook page, or on the Defying Shadows tab on our blog!
This week we will discuss the song, “When She Cries” by Britt Nicole. This is one of the first songs that created the passion and drive behind Defying Shadows, and inspired it to become what it is today.
This song talks about a girl is abused as a child, and begins to struggle with self harm.
“Pulling down her long sleeves
To cover all the memories the scars leave
She says, “Maybe making me bleed
will be the answer that could wash the slate clean.”
The chorus tells us that,
“Every day’s the same
She fights to find her way
She hurts, she breaks, she hides, and tries to pray
She wonders why, does anyone ever hear her when she cries?”
But then we hear that there is hope.
“This is the dark before the dawn
The storm before the peace”
Don’t be afraid ’cause seasons change and
God is watching over you
He hears you.”
And she knows that,
“She’ll be just fine, ’cause I know he hears her when she cries.”
Always know that there is someone out there who cares. Someone who will be there when you are hurting. Someone who loves you and thinks you are special.
