This week is Eating Disorder Awareness Week, so our team at Defying Shadows decided that we would join the discussion and help break down any misconceptions about this disorder. Eating Disorders are one of the many “Shadows” that we want to offer encouragement and help for those who are struggling with these issues.
Today I want to talk about where you can go to get help if you are struggling with an eating disorder. The internet is an amazing creation which will give us thousands of options for seeking help! Here are a few of my favourites.
NAMI is a National Alliance on Mental Illness. NAMI offers a lot of information to help you further understand your struggle and what is involved. NAMI directs us to NEDA (more info below), Eating Disorder Resource Centre, and NIH (National Institute of Mental Health).
NEDA is the National Eating Disorder Association which offers help through a Confidential Helpline, which is open Monday to Thursday from 9am-9pm and Friday from 9am-5pm! Give them a call today at 1-800-931-2237 or check their website out here.
ANAD is the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Other Associated Disorders. This association offers treatment centers in every state and even international centers for those of us from Canada! Select the place closest to you and find more in-depth information and directions to the closest Treatment Center near you!
NEDC is the National Eating Disorders Collaboration, which offers helplines in many areas, as well as more information on how to find healing! Check them out here!
Eating Disorder Hope offers us with many resources including Treatment Centers, Recovery Resources, and Specialized Counselors and Therapists. Check them out here!
Help is out there! I know it can be hard, but be sure to ask for help when you need it! You will be in my prayers!
Love,
Nichole
