No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
In Luke 4:1-13 it talks about God being tempted by the devil in the desert. This story demonstrates the temptations God went through that we ourselves go through or have gone through.
Sometimes we may feel like we are the only ones who are struggling with temptation but God reminds us in 1 Corinthians that we are not alone, other people struggle with it as well, maybe not the same temptation as us because temptation comes in different forms for instance; Lust, addiction, lies, stealing, etc. Temptation looks different for everyone.
The good news is God has already enabled us with the ability to overcome temptation because of His spirit that lives in us. Is it always easy to overcome? No, because the flesh cries out but we have the choice to gratify our flesh or resist the temptation. An accountability partner is a good resource to have. Someone who you trust and that you’ll know they will help encourage you to make good choices.
There are times we may feel like we are overwhelmed by temptation and feel like there’s no way out. God tells us in this verse that He will never give us more than we can handle and even when we feel like we can’t overcome our temptations we know that we can fully rely on Him. No matter what we face He will always bring us through. God will never bring us to something that He is not willing to take us through. If God brings us to something He will equip us to go through it.
