With Thanksgiving vastly approaching I begin to think about the things in my life that I am thankful for and my list may look very similar to others except for maybe the part where I am thankful for my stubborn, emotional, sometimes bratty kid.
Let me explain…
My oldest daughter is only 4 and she is a challenge most days and it’s not due to lack of discipline. She is very particular about things, like her clothes, her hair, her school work, her food and so on. There are times if things aren’t just right she melts down which is something we are overcoming together.
Her challenges don’t outweigh how bright she is, or how creative she is! (She loves finding different shapes to trace and then she turns them into people, I love it!) She also already shows great interest in photography, I mean really she can do anything she sets her mind on. This girl is a born leader and cares for others like I’ve never seen before. I read an article before about raising leaders and it did mention that they can be difficult most of the time until you train them up on how to lead.
Okay so let me tell you why I’m thankful that she isn’t an easy kid…
This girl keeps me on my knees, praying!
Somedays are really hard and I just don’t know what to do and I find myself seeking Jesus often for guidance. This is why I am blessed to have a challenging child.
If I had all easy kids and they were really well-behaved I am afraid that I would not seek God’s counsel on how they should be raised. Instead I would be like “This mom thing isn’t so bad, I’ve got this!”
This mom thing is sooo hard and I am so glad it is because I have a better relationship with Jesus because of it. My prayer life went to practically non-existed to daily and just recently it I took it to a new level after watching War Room.
Since becoming a mother I have less sleep, less time, more work, more of me and a relationship with Jesus that has been better than it’s ever been!
So yes I am THANKFUL for my not so easy kid.
What is the thing you are thankful for that others wouldn’t expect?
