What constitutes as consent? If a person gets drunk and has sex with another person, does that mean they were sexually assaulted? Not necessarily, it depends on how much both have had to drink, as well as how coherent both people are.
This discussion has been happening for as long as sexual acts have been taking place, so pretty much since the dawn of time. The moral of the whole thing is this; if a person says no, the other person should respect that. If a person is black out drunk, that should automatically mean no.
Of course not everyone is going to respect those morals, so always remember the following:
- Never leave beverages unattended
- Don’t put yourself in vulnerable situations while intoxicated
- Let someone know to come looking for you if you’re gone after a certain amount of time
Above all else, please always remember, sexual assault is never the victims fault. There is nothing to be ashamed of on the victims part, and if you are a victim of sexual assault, seek help immediately. There is hope, you’re not alone.
Melanie is just an ordinary girl, living an extraordinary life. She has Spina Bifida, which caused her to be born paralyzed from the waist down, she has had twenty-three surgeries, but she has never let that stop her from achieving her dreams. Melanie was a psychology major, before being forced to drop out due to medical issues, as devastating as that was, she picked herself back up and decided to pursue her dream of being an author, she is currently working on her first small book called “Befuddled Societies guide to Spina Bifida,” which will be out in a few weeks, hopefully. Melanie also suffers from anxiety and depression, and that’s the reason she wants to help others going through the same thing – because she knows how it feels to feel all alone.
