Challenging Negative Thoughts

Everyone has negative thoughts that go through their mind. No one can help you challenge those thoughts except for yourself. That is something that you have to learn to do on your own. No one can get rid of those thoughts for you. I’m only speaking from experience. I was one of those people that let the negative thoughts take control of my entire life. It’s not fun; I know that, I know what you are going through. How do you get a healthy mind you ask? It all depends on one main thing. Are you willing to do the work that it takes to fill up the negative space with the positive? It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. If you’re up for the challenge then please continue.

negativethoughts

First thing is first; think positive. Now you’re thinking, “if I could just think positive, then I wouldn’t be in the place that I am in now.” I know it seems hard, and it will be when you start; but it will get easier as you continue on. You CAN choose your thoughts. If you have a negative thought, challenge it. Force yourself to think of three positives to every negative. Here’s an example of a negative thought, “everyone hates me.” Here are the positives to the negative situation. A)  my daughter just came up to me, gave me a hug and said she loved me B) not everyone in the world knows me, so not everyone can hate me and C) I am a child of God and He loves me. Then write them down where you can see it so it can be a constant reminder to you. It’s hard to think positive at first, but after you continually do it, it will get easier. Ask God to help you to think positive. He will help!

Secondly, think in the mind of Christ. If you are continually doing this, then how can you go wrong? We’ll use the previous example. You know for sure that God loves you because He died on the cross to save you from your sins. To me that is the greatest example of love.

Third, remember that being negative won’t solve your problems; it will only make them worse (Joyce Meyers from Battlefield of the Mind.) This should be reason enough to stop with the negative thinking. So please stop punishing yourself.  You wouldn’t hurt yourself on purpose, so please don’t do it to your mind. Instead, why don’t you free it? And free it for good. You can choose your thoughts. If you have a negative thought you can choose not to believe it. You can choose to replace it with the positive.

Forth, who is the one being who is out there to seek, kill, and destroy (John 10:10 NLT))? That’s right, satan is. Keep in mind that at the beginning those thoughts are put into your mind by him and your mind decides to take that thought captive and carry it on, until you feel as though you cannot handle it any longer. But don’t forget that God will not give you anything more than you can handle (1 Corinthians 10:13). Satan wants to keep you trapped in a lifestyle that makes you feel unhappy. If you have empty space in your mind to fill, satan will fill it. Just not with the things that you want. You need to continue to rebuke him. Continue to think positive. Resist the devil and he will flee from you (John 4:7 NLT).

Fifth, watch what you say and do. You heard me! This has everything to do with it believe it or not. If you are always speaking negatively and doing negative actions then your mind will be negative.  If you keep practising positive self-talk (mentioned in the first point) then your mind will become more positive. It’s something that needs to be done all the time and needs to be done continuously. Watch what you are putting into your mind when you are watching television, even that can have a great effect on the thoughts that go into your mind. Say you’re watching a TV show that is filled with swearing and negative behaviours, then that is going to be absorbed into your mind, and it will change the way you act. For an example, have you ever been around a kid that watches Caillou? Have you ever noticed that after they watch it, they seem to whine and try to get away with things? The mind is like a sponge. Be aware of what may be affecting your mind.

I know that none of this sounds easy; unfortunately I have to tell you that it’s not. If you want to have a free mind then follow these points. They work, believe me. I have lived it. These points are exactly what I did to set my mind free.
