*** Defying Shadows turns Two this August! To Celebrate, we are going to spend the part of the month resharing some of our favourite posts! Enjoy! ***
On the days that it is so hard to wake up, even harder to get out of bed… The days where all you want to do is pull the covers back over your head. Those are the days where you need to get up. The days you need to go for a walk. Find yourself a job, a task, an activity – no matter how small. Today we are going to talk about taking Baby Steps in our lives, what this looks like and how this will work!
This morning, I did NOT want to get out of bed. I had to take very tiny baby steps to get myself out of bed and ready for work. I mean super tiny steps! Step one: roll over. Step two: move your blanket. Step three: tumble out of bed. But amazingly enough, those baby steps built onto each other and soon I was out of bed, dressed, and ready for my day. No matter what is going on in your life, no matter how crazy it may be. Know that…
“Baby steps count as long as you are going forward.”
~Chris Gardner, “The Pursuit of Happyness”
So within the last hour, someone cut you off on the freeway, you have dropped your coffee down your white shirt, you realized you left an important report at home and there is rumors going around the office that people are being let go at the end of the week. You are overwhelmed to say the least. How do you deal with it?
Take baby steps: One thing at a time. One day at a time.
Take baby steps you say? But I have to climb this mountain by two o’clock on Thursday! I do not have time for baby steps! I need to run leaps and bounds! When you know you have a lot on your plate, it is even more important to take baby steps.
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out”
~ R. Collier
Taking baby steps can help you climb the highest mountain. It can help you conquer the tasks of your busiest days. It can also help you start climbing out of the pit of depression. So what do you need to accomplish today? What baby steps do you need to take in the next hour to accomplish these things? Try taking baby steps this week and let me know how it goes in the comments below!
