“Do not be afraid.”  It sounds simple, but why is never as simple as it seems?  Why do people make you feel bad for being afraid?  Does it really matter?

It should matter to us because it matters to God.  He tells us 365 times “do not be afraid”.  That’s one for every day of the year.  It should also matter because it’s in the Bible.  I believe that the Bible is a God-breathed and Holy Spirit filled book written by man through the inspiration of God.  If everything from the Bible came from God, it’s important and still matters today.

“Do not be afraid.”  Four simple words that, when put together, have a huge impact.   Why do we sometimes have a problem with holding onto our fears?  I think that goes back to free will.  God could have chosen to make us have a relationship with Him.  He could have chosen for us to fully trust Him.  He didn’t and that’s the beauty of it.  God loves us so much, he wants to be free to chose Him.

Sometimes we hold onto our fears because we’re afraid of the unknown.  How is it going to work out?  How can I know it’s the right choice?  What if I mess up?  The glorious part is that God has a perfectly extraordinary plan for our lives and it’s always beyond anything we can imagine.

It’s easier said than done, but I don’t think it’s right for us to hold onto our fears.  Think of the most perfect and exciting thing you could imagine.   God imagines so much for you!  If you’re perfect plan makes you that excited, imagine how God’s perfect plan will make you feel!

In Joshua 8:1, God is telling Joshua to go to battle with the king of Ai.  The king of Ai has a bigger army and stronger defences.  That’s enough to strike fear into anyone.  You know what?  Joshua won!  He conquered his fear and did exactly as God instructed him.  That’s another beautiful part of our faith in God:  if he calls you to it, He will always always give exactly what you need to accomplish His task.

“Do not be afraid.”  God is steadfast and faithful!
