Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

Psalm 46:2

I remember a time when it seemed everything in my life was falling totally apart.  Everything I knew was no more.  It seemed I was walking day by day praying to crawl out of the pit I was in.  It felt like my world had fallen into the heart of the sea, my life was shaken to the core, as if the whole earth had given way.

I was afraid to trust.  Afraid to share my heart with anyone, it was a very hard season of life.  I think the writer of this Psalm, King David, knew what is was like to feel your life falling apart before your eyes, but he also knew why he didn’t have to live in fear when it did.

He is basically saying even when it feels like everything in your life gives way, don’t fear.  Sounds simple doesn’t it?

When I see the “therefore” I look back to the verse before this one, and see how and why he is telling us not to live in fear.  Verse one tells us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

That is so reassuring to me!  To know that even though it feels like my world has fallen apart, I can fall into the arms of God who is my refuge and strength, and He will calm my heart, He will drive every fear away, and He will always be my safe haven. In the middle of my storm, He is there! I don’t have to fear what lies ahead because He is already there.

So today rest in the arms of our loving God, and know wherever you are, He sees and knows, and you don’t have to fear, because He is in complete control.  Just simply trust Him and let go of all your fears.  Lay your fear at His feet, and in its place, let His peace flood your heart and soul.

God has the answer even before I have the need; therefore my friends, I will not fear…
