#FEARLESS365 is a yearlong study of God’s commandment to us to live without fear. For 365 days, we will focus on one scripture and volunteers from all over the world will share their personal thoughts and what God has shared with them on the specific verse. For more info… go here.
In God, whose word I praise– in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
Psalm 56:4
I was asked to reflect on what Psalm 56:4 means to me and my family.
This verse brings great comfort to me because it reminds me that as a Christ follower it is much easier to face uncertain times. We can take comfort in the fact that no matter what is going on, we know who is in ultimate control. He has us in His hand. No matter who is in power on this earthly plane, no matter the persecution, no matter the oppression, God is in full control.
A recent situation that comes to mind is the most recent Presidential Elections in the US. People saying “If this candidate wins there will be rioting like we have never seen. It will not be safe to go out for food! It might lead to martial law.” or “If this candidate wins American Christians will experience persecution like the Christians overseas. They will be put in prison or worse!”.
I was asked how, as a Christian or as a woman I could be so calm over the elections.
It is only the peace of God which surpasses all understanding. God’s peace is not the absence of conflict, but knowing and trusting who is in control. Trust in His sovereignty. He cares enough for the birds of the air and flowers to see that their needs are met, how much more does He care for me! To send His only son to die a horrible, agonizing death to cleanse me of my sins so that I may spend eternity with Him.
Right now I, as an American Christian, have many freedoms that my brothers and sisters in other countries do not have. Yes, we are losing rights to express our faith, but we do not face death for our beliefs yet. I do not fear facing death for my faith though.
Jesus said that we should not fear those who can kill the body because they cannot kill the soul. Even if it ever comes to a point that I have to decide between my life here on this earth or the eternal life given to me through Christ, I will always choose Christ.
Nothing anyone on earth can ever do to me will matter in eternity. If this mortal body parishes, I will be with Christ.
As a mom, it is my job to shepherd my children into a real relationship with Christ so that they would not fear, so that they will have the peace that comes from knowing Christ as their Lord and Savior. That is why I try to be intentional about teaching my children about the Lord, as Deuteronomy 6 commands. Talking about Him when we get up and lay down, when we cook and when we play.
