#FEARLESS365 is a yearlong study of God’s commandment to us to live without fear. For 365 days, we will focus on one scripture and volunteers from all over the world will share their personal thoughts and what God has shared with them on the specific verse. For more info… go here.
“David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.”
1 Chronicles 28:20, NIV
What a great reminder that God, the Creator of the Universe, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, is the same God I serve, and He never changes. David knew that God would be with his son and reminded Solomon that He will “not fail you or forsake you”.
Moses gave those same words to Joshua in Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Paul reminds us of the same in Hebrews 13: 5 “because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”
Over the course of history, God’s promise has been that He will never leave or forsake His own. He promised Joshua. He promised Solomon and He promises me.
Even when I am feeling isolated and abandoned. I am not alone. When I am taking a stand or going against the grain. I am not alone. When I’m in the midst of a crowd and I feel invisible. I am not alone.
How do I know? Because He said He is there. He has proven Himself faithful. He was with Joshua. He was with Solomon and He is with me.
Truth is truth and truth trumps feelings. When the feeling of inadequacy rears it’s ugly head. When I am discouraged and being dragged low. When there is nothing that I can do on my own. I cling to truth. God’s Word.. I repeat it over and over. I cry it. I pray it.
I don’t need to remind God of His promise. He doesn’t forget. He doesn’t fail and He won’t leave. I need to remind me. Sometimes daily. Sometimes hourly. Sometimes it seems that my words run into one another and trip over each other as I repeat truth fast enough to keep up with my speeding thoughts.
God was with Joshua so he could lead Israel into the Promised Land. God was with Solomon so the service of the Temple could be complete. God has things for me to do and I need to get on with the doing and get past the fearing.
