#FEARLESS365 is a yearlong study of God’s commandment to us to live without fear. For 365 days, we will focus on one scripture and volunteers from all over the world will share their personal thoughts and what God has shared with them on the specific verse. For more info… go here.
“In my distress I called to the Lord; I called out to my God. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears.”
2 Samuel 22:7
In 2 Samuel 22:7, David asked God to remove him from the hold of his enemies: “In my distress I called to the Lord; I called out to my God. From His temple he heard my voice; my cry came to His Ears.”
As Christians, we are all about “having the faith” that God will provide a path for our lives. Sure, we say it with some level of confidence, but do we really know what it’s like to give 100% of your trust to His Plan? We naturally tend to use our own earthly logic to make sense of situations rather than wait for the answer. For Type A people like myself, creating multiple options for my future is instilled in my being. If my first plan doesn’t work out, I’ll just do the next plan, and so on. However, there came a time where none of my plans worked, and it was finally time to try out faith.
Right out of college, I was in a dead-end job for two years where I convinced myself that being promoted was more important than a healthy personal life. I worked 60+ hours and drove hundreds of miles a week. My eating habits were out of control, and my fiancé (now my husband) and I fought constantly. We lived almost three hours from our closest family and felt alone in the city we lived in. During that time, God was very low on my priority list because I didn’t have time for anything but my work. After one huge argument with my fiancé, I realized I had let my work completely take over my life.
I applied for several jobs back home with no luck. My current job only got harder, and my boss continued to devalue me daily. I felt like I was at rock bottom with hardly any professional experience and no way out. Then one day, I woke up and just quit. I had no back up plan…the main provider for the household had no income coming in. That was the day I decided to give 100% of my trust to God. I couldn’t figure out my life anymore, but I knew He already did.
I prayed constantly for understanding on where He needed me to go. I didn’t apply for any more jobs and just focused on trying to seek His Answer. Three days later, I got a call from my (now) current employer asking for an interview. I was not only offered the job to start immediately, I was given that promotion I had been working for! In fact, this was the first job I had applied for in my search. If I would have just trusted God from the start, I wouldn’t have had to worry about how I would find a new job. What I thought was impossible, became my reality.
Separating logic from faith can be difficult; our decisions may seem unrealistic to the world because we are told how things are meant to work. I encourage you to try giving God 100% of your trust during a difficult situation without any back up plans. Those who truly believe He will never let you suffer will be greatly rewarded!
