1 in 4 people suffer from a mental health condition yet it is still a taboo subject
and there is still discrimination and stigma. Lots of people are often afraid to speak up
because they feel they will be judged as not normal, but when a celebrity speaks up it often encourages people to come forward and speak about their difficulties.
Below I will share some quotes or information about famous people that have spoken out:
Stacey Solomon the Loose Women presenter this is a discussion tv program in the UK, has talked openly about her battle with debilitating anxiety she said “I normally get most anxious at bedtime as I have time to contemplate and catastrophize about stuff” Stacy has seen a therapist and is learning ways to manage her anxiety and recognize triggers.
Emma Stone Hollywood actress has said that acting has been her “saviour” she said
“Be wired up is just kind of what you are”
In 2011 Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones sought help for bipolar disorder, she said
“This disorder affects millions of people and I am one of them, if my revelation can help one person to seek help, then it is worth it” she goes on to mention that you should not be ashamed or suffer in silence.
Actor Jim Cary took Prozac for depression. “It may have helped me out of a jam for a little bit, but people stay on it”
Fearne Cotton, the TV presenter is an ambassador for mental health charity Mind and suffers from panic attacks and depression.
Prince Harry admitted that after the death of his mother he suffered from panic attacks although it did not come out until years later. He said “I would just be pouring with sweat and may be in a room and think I just want to get out of here. Prince Harry along with his brother Prince William and his wife the Duchess of Cambridge are now working with a charity called Heads Together
It was set up to help people in various walks of life, including military veterans.
Frank Bruno MBE Former Heavy Weight Boxer has been in the public eye many times talking about his battle with bipolar. He is also an ambassador for one of the charities that I am involved with, called Time to Change. He once said in a quote “This is my biggest fight yet” I think he is amazing because he says it as it is.

There are many more famous people who have mental health issues, I have just listed some of them. Remember anybody can get a mental health issue regardless of whether they are famous or royalty and so on.
