Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master, ‘This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid of what you have heard—those words with which the underlings of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

2 Kings 19:6

If you turn on the news, take a scroll through social media, or listen in on conversations anywhere you can hear the angst, the worry and the fear.  People are anxious because of what they have heard.  This verse comes as a response to that same kind of fear.  The prophet Isaiah responds with words that are meant to calm our anxious hearts even today.  “Do not be afraid of what you heard.”  Let these words encourage your heart.

When the news reports that the country is in turmoil – do not be afraid of what you heard.  When the doctor delivers the diagnoses that you had prayed against so vehemently – do not be afraid of what you heard.  When the bill collectors are stalking, the spouse is considering leaving, the loved one is lost, the child can’t be found, the scale won’t go down, the bank account won’t go up and it seems like the situation you are facing is impossible, remember this – DO NOT BE AFRAID OF WHAT YOU HEARD!

You have no reason to fear.  Fear won’t change your situation, but faith will change you!  Fear wastes time and energy.  Faith opens the door to tremendous opportunities.  The reports we receive challenge the foundations of faith.  We have to tell our hearts what the Lord has said.  We have to train our minds in what the Lord has said.  We have to live our lives rooted in what the Lord has said.  Regardless of the experts, the reports, the rumors, the troubles or the issues the Lord says, Do not be afraid of what you heard.”  Silence the fear with loud faith that drowns out the report of the enemy with the truth that God is in control!

Many times life events will come in direct opposition with what the Lord has spoken.  Hold tightly to the truth!  Believe God in spite of what you see.  His truth will never change.  Trust His truth and believe that it is working on your behalf.
